Welcome to Naval Air Station Pensacola, the "Cradle of Naval Aviation." NAS Pensacola serves as the launching point for the flight training of every naval aviator, naval flight officer, and enlisted aircrewman. The base encompasses NAS Pensacola proper and other nearby locations, such as the sub-installation Corry Station.

NAS Pensacola is the home of the Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Technical Training Center, Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 and 23, the Blue Angels, and the headquarters for Naval Education Training Command.

NAS Pensacola provides support to 94 Department of Defense and 31 non-DOD tenant commands, most of which train Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel in naval aviation. It’s also home to the National Naval Aviation Museum and other notable public interest areas, including the Pensacola Light House, historic Fort Barrancas, and the Barrancas National Cemetery.

Base Entry Procedures for NAS Pensacola

Whether you’re going to NAS Pensacola for a PCS, TAD/TDY, or just to visit, there is some key information you’ll need to know to ensure a smooth arrival.

Getting to NAS Pensacola from Nearby Cities

Naval Air Station Pensacola’s Main Gate is about 20 minutes from downtown Pensacola, and 25-30 minutes from Pensacola International Airport.

Corry Station’s Main Gate is about 15 minutes from downtown Pensacola, and about 20 minutes from Pensacola International Airport.

The nearest major cities are Mobile, AL (about 80 minutes to the west) and Tallahassee, FL (about 3 hours to the east).

Gates & Hours of Operation

NAS Pensacola has multiple access points, but the three most important to know are the Main Gate, Corry Station Gate, and West Gate.

The Main Gate and Corry Station Gate are limited to DoD personnel only. The West Gate is the designated entrance for visitors to NAS Jacksonville (although you must still stop at the visitor center if you do not already have a base pass).

Depending on the circumstances on base, use of this gate by visitors may be temporarily restricted. For more information about the Saufley Field and other NAS Pensacola gates, and to verify whether the West Gate is open to civilian visitors, check the NAS Pensacola Visitor Information website.

Main Gate

The Main Gate at NAS Pensacola is located on Murray Road and is open to DoD personnel 24 hours a day.

The NAS Pensacola Visitor Control Center is located at this gate.

Corry Station Main Gate

The Corry Station Main Gate is located on Chiefs Way and is open to DoD personnel 24 hours a day.

West Gate

The West Gate is the only gate through which visitors are permitted to enter NAS Pensacola. It is located on S Blue Angels Parkway, and is open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends and holidays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hours of operation for this gate are subject to change temporarily due to a variety of conditions on base. Reference the NAS Pensacola Visitor Information website to verify current hours.

Want to Visit NAS Pensacola? Here’s How to Get Base Access

NAS Pensacola participates in the Trusted Traveler Program, which allows current DoD ID cardholders to escort guests onto the installation. All guests over the age of 18 must still present a valid photo ID.

The Trusted Traveler Program may be temporarily suspended due to conditions on base. Check the NAS Pensacola Visitor Information website or contact the Visitor Center to confirm current procedures.

Some Veterans with a valid Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) may present their VHIC to access NAS Pensacola. See the NAS Pensacola Visitor Information website for details.

Visitors to Barrancas National Cemetery must first go to the Visitor Control Center to get a guest pass; however, most other areas of public interest, like the National Aviation Museum or Fort Barrancas, do not require passes. This is subject to change due to conditions on base. Check the NAS Pensacola Visitor Information website or contact the Visitor Center for the most up-to-date information.

What ID Do You Need For Base Access?

To access NAS Pensacola as a visitor through the West Gate, any visitor over the age of 18 will be required to present a Real ID or a US Passport.

To access NAS Pensacola as the guest of a Valid DoD ID holder, you will need to present one of the following:

  • Non-CAC Local or Regional DoD Credential issued by the local installation or region
  • REAL ID-compliant driver's license, enhanced driver's license, or non-driver's identification card issued by a State, territory, possession, or the District of Columbia
  • U.S. or Foreign Passport or Passport Card
  • Travel Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC)
  • Federal PIV

Resource Support Center Pensacola & ID Card Lab

The Resource Support Center at NAS Pensacola provides pay and personnel support for Sailors and their families aboard NAS Pensacola and also issues DoD ID cards.

Morale, Welfare, and Recreation on NAS Pensacola

Fleet and Family Support Center

The Fleet and Family Support Center provides a wide range of services to Sailors and their families, including free parenting and life skill programs, financial programs, deployment support, transition and employment assistance, relocation assistance, counseling and victim assistance, new parent support program, information and referral services, and more.

The goal of FFSC is to improve the quality of life for military personnel and their families.

Exceptional Family Member Program

The Fleet and Family Support Center is also the go to location for the Exceptional Family Member Program. The EFMP supports military families with members who have special needs including, but not limited to, requiring any kind of specialty medical care or doctors and/or any type of educational support services for six months or more.

Pools

NAS Pensacola has a total of three recreational pools. Both the Corry Station and Mustin Beach pools feature both shallow ends and deep ends with rock walls for those seeking adventure.

Corry Station also features an accessible ramp and a splash pad, while the Mustin Beach Pool has a baby area and two covered picnic areas. The NASP Indoor Pool has three six-lane pools for lap swimming, and is open seasonally in the fall and winter.

Children below the age of 18 are required to pass a swim test to swim alone, although a parent or guardian must still be present.

Sports Offerings at NAS Pensacola

NAS Pensacola has many great opportunities for athletes to keep playing the sports they love. Whether you’re looking for youth leagues or want to play yourself, there’s something for everyone. NAS Pensacola also has a number of athletics fields and facilities that Sailors can reserve and use.

Captain’s Cup Sports

The Captain’s Cup is a large-scale sport competition between commands on NAS Pensacola. Commands compete at a variety of sports throughout the year, from bowling and flag football to darts and cornhole, accumulating points from each event.

The command with the most points at the end of the year gets to proudly display the Captain’s Cup Trophy until a new winner emerges.

NAS Pensacola Marinas and Beach Access

For those who can’t get enough of the open water, NAS Pensacola has two marinas and two public beaches for you to enjoy. Both marinas offer ramps and slips, storage, watercraft rentals, fuel, and small shops.

Barrancas Beach features a full bathhouse, beach volleyball court, first-come, first-served cabanas with grills, and on-duty lifeguards.

Ski Beach has free covered pavilion rentals for parties and picnics. You can also rent paddleboards, kayaks, camping gear, and other recreation equipment.

Blue Angel Park

Blue Angel Park is a beautiful outdoor recreation space located about nine miles outside the West Gate on Perdido Bay. There’s fun for the whole family at Blue Angel Park, including a 35-acre paintball field, three 18-hole disc golf courses, geocaching, hiking/biking trails, children’s playgrounds, beach access, a boat launch, picnic areas, and pavilion rentals.

Blue Angel Park’s Marina Outpost offers equipment rental and concessions. Those looking for a longer-term outing in nature can stay at one of 149 RV sites, 12 fully furnished two-bedroom mobile homes, 7 rustic one-bedroom cabins, or 16 tent campsites. Last but not least, Blue Angel Park offers service members dry property storage on a limited basis.

Liberty Centers

Through the Liberty Program, MWR offers a variety of amenities and recreation opportunities specifically for active duty enlisted personnel. Between two Liberty Centers, Sailors can access computers, video game systems, pool tables, an arcade, ping pong, shuffleboard, and more. Sailors who love to game, in particular, should check out the MWR’s eSports tournaments.

On-Base Housing Pet Policy

Each home may have a maximum of two pets, subject to breed restrictions. Restricted breeds most likely include: Pit Bull Terriers (American/English Staffordshire Bull Terrier), Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, Chows, and Canid/Wolf Hybrids or any mixes of those breeds.

Education Facilities and Child Care at NAS Pensacola

Families aboard NAS Pensacola can access three nearby school districts, depending on where they choose to live, two in the state of Florida and one in Alabama. Escambia County Schools

The Escambia County School District is the district that NAS Pensacola is located within. It is a large district serving about 35,000 students across 54 schools.

Escambia County offers a couple of specialized schools at all grade levels; for example, George Stone Technical College, where juniors and seniors can pursue technical education in a number of different fields.

Escambia County Schools have been given an overall “B” grade per Florida’s Department of Education District Report Card program.

Santa Rosa County Schools

The Santa Rosa County School District is a large school district serving about 30,000 students across 35 schools. Just over 10% of its student population is military-affiliated.

Santa Rosa County also offers a small number of specialized schools, including Locklin Technical College, where juniors and seniors can pursue technical education in a number of different fields. Santa Rosa County Schools have been given an “A” grade per Florida’s Department of Education District Report Card program.

Baldwin County Schools

The Baldwin County School District serves over 31,000 students across 44 schools. Despite its large population, a large number of teachers on staff keep class sizes low at about 16 students on average.

Students interested in technical education opportunities at the high school level have the opportunity to attend Baldwin Preparatory Academy to gain skills in fields like health sciences, automotive technology, cyber security, culinary arts, and more.

Baldwin County Schools are a part of the Purple Star program, which recognizes excellence in support of students from military families.

Child Care Options

For families with children who are not yet school-aged, or who require child care for older children outside of school hours, NAS Pensacola offers multiple support options.

Child Development Centers

NAS Pensacola has two Child Development Centers where you can enroll your child aged 6 weeks to five years old.

CDC’s provide a structured curriculum for your child that will support their development from infancy through their toddler years as they grow old enough to begin school. Both CDC’s aboard NAS Pensacola are open from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Youth Centers

There are two Youth Centers on NAS Pensacola that offer before and after school care. The NASP Youth Center also offers seasonal summer camps, Boys and Girls Club, and 4-H programs, while the Corry Station Youth Center offers youth sports.

Transportation to and from base schools is available for certain local schools. Youth Centers are open on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does NAS Pensacola participate in the Trusted Traveler Program?

Yes, NAS Pensacola does participate in the Trusted Traveler Program, which allows individuals with a valid DoD ID to escort others onto the installation.

However, conditions on NAS Pensacola may result in the program being temporarily suspended. Check the NAS Pensacola Visitor Information website or contact the Visitor Center to confirm current procedures.

Can I live on NAS Pensacola without children?

Active-duty with dependents (spouses OR children) are permitted to live in base housing. Depending on availability, other DoD members, military retirees, and civilians are also able to live on NAS Pensacola.

Can I live on NAS Pensacola if I'm not married?

Sailors rank E3 and below are required to live in unaccompanied housing (barracks or dormitories) aboard NAS Pensacola. E4s may also live in unaccompanied housing if rooms are available.

Higher rank Sailors will be able to reside in unaccompanied housing if they serve as Resident Advisors.

Geographic Bachelors (Sailors whose dependents live in a different geographic area) may also live in unaccompanied housing, but must apply.

Can I bring my pet to NAS Pensacola?

As a visitor, you can bring your pet to NAS Pensacola. However, pets are only allowed on NAS Pensacola beaches from the seawall walking path westward to the Oak Grove Campground, and NOT allowed west of the Campground to Trout Point, including the Trout Point Nature Trail, Lake Frederic area, Magazine Point, or NATTC beaches.

Pets must be on-leash at all times. If you are living on NAS Pensacola or in the nearby area, be advised that Escambia County requires that all pets be licensed. See the Escambia County websites for more information.
