RUN FOR A CAUSE: A SNAPSHOT OF THE BEST RACES SUPPORTING THE MILITARY COMMUNITY

The end of summer and transition into fall every year is always both a bittersweet and equally exciting time: marked by not only a change of seasons, but also the beginning of new school years, sports schedules, traditions, and more.
The fall season is also notable each year because it is the time of year when most races supporting many organizations that support our military community take place, in cities spanning from coast to coast, and everywhere in between.
We’re proud to highlight a few of our favorites here.

Travis Manion Foundation 9/11 Heroes Run
Location: US Cities Nationwide
Date: Sundays in September (vary by city)
The Travis Manion Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that was founded by the family members and loved ones of 1st LT Travis Manion, USMC, who tragically lost his life in April of 2007 while on his second deployment to Iraq.
The Foundation, otherwise known as TMF, seeks to embody Travis’ life motto, which was, “if not me, then who.”
As their website states, the organization does this, “Through uniting communities to strengthen America’s national character by empowering Veterans and families of fellow fallen heroes to develop and lead future generations.”
Each year, on or around 9/11, TMF holds races called the “9/11 Heroes Run” in dozens of cities around the country to raise both funds and awareness for this important work. Since the organization’s inception, the 9/11 Heroes Run has skyrocketed in growth to now over 90 cities nationwide, featuring over 60,000 runners.
Want to join in on the cause this fall, but can’t attend a run in a city near you? Do not fret. TMF offers Virtual Run options for those willing to participate on their own turf and time.
